Striped Candy Apples

Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Prepare the Apples

Start by washing the apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating, which can prevent the candy from sticking properly. Dry them completely with a clean towel.

Insert a wooden stick firmly into the top of each apple, pushing it about halfway through so it’s secure. Set the apples aside while you prepare the candy coating.

Step 2: Make the Candy Coating

In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Place the pan over medium-high heat and stir gently until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Once the mixture begins to boil, stop stirring and attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan. Allow the syrup to cook undisturbed until it reaches 300°F (150°C), known as the hard crack stage. This ensures the coating will set firm and glossy.

Step 3: Color the Candy

Carefully remove the saucepan from heat. Divide the hot candy mixture evenly into two heatproof bowls.

Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, stirring gently to create two bold, distinct colors. Work carefully, as the mixture will be extremely hot.

Step 4: Create the Stripes

Dip each apple into the first color, turning it slowly to coat evenly. Allow the coating to set slightly—just until it’s no longer dripping but still tacky.

Using a spoon, drizzle or lightly dip the apple into the second color, creating striped or layered patterns. Control the flow to achieve thin lines or bold bands, depending on your desired look.

Step 5: Add Decorative Touches

If desired, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles over the apples while the candy coating is still tacky. This adds sparkle, texture, and extra visual appeal.

Step 6: Cool and Set

Place the finished apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them cool completely at room temperature until the candy shell hardens fully.

Once set, the apples are ready to serve or display.

Tips for Perfect Candy Apples

Work quickly but carefully, as candy coating sets fast.

Avoid humid conditions, which can make the candy sticky.

If the candy thickens too much, gently rewarm it over low heat.

Use gel food coloring for vibrant, long-lasting colors.

A Show-Stopping Treat for Any Occasion

Striped Candy Apples are more than just a dessert—they’re a statement piece. With their glossy finish, bold colors, and satisfying crunch, they’re perfect for parties, holidays, themed events, or as homemade gifts.

Each apple is a little different, making them feel special and handcrafted. Once you master the technique, you can experiment with color combinations and decorations to create your own signature style.

Fun to make, beautiful to display, and delicious to eat, striped candy apples are a sweet tradition reinvented—and one that’s sure to delight kids and adults alike. 🍎✨
