Mashed Potatoes with Savory Beef Gravy

Mashed Potatoes with Savory Beef Gravy
Ingredients (4 servings)
For the mashed potatoes:

2 lb (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

3 tbsp butter

½ cup milk or cream (warm)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the beef gravy:

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

½ tsp dried thyme or parsley (optional)

Instructions

Instructions
1. Make the mashed potatoes
Place potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil.

Cook for 15–20 minutes until very tender.

Drain well, then mash with butter and warm milk.

Season with salt and pepper. Keep warm.

2. Prepare the beef gravy
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.

Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.

Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Sprinkle flour over the meat and mix well. Cook 1 minute.

Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.

Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and herbs.

Simmer for 5–8 minutes until thick and glossy.

3. Assemble
Spoon mashed potatoes into bowls.

Pour hot beef gravy generously over the top.

Finish with extra pepper or herbs if desired.

Tips
Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.

For richer potatoes, replace milk with heavy cream.

This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or a green salad.
