Soft angel food cake, smooth vanilla pudding, airy whipped topping, and sweet cherries — simple ingredients but AMAZING result.
This cake is:
• No-bake (except the cake itself)
• Perfect for summer
• Light, not heavy
• Better after chilling overnight
🧺 FULL INGREDIENT LIST
🔹 Cake Base
• 1 package angel food cake
(Store-bought or homemade, completely cooled)
🔹 Creamy Vanilla Layer
• 1 package instant vanilla pudding mix
• 1 ½ cups cold milk
⚠️ IMPORTANT:
Use INSTANT pudding, not cook-and-serve.
🔹 Whipped Cream Layer
• 1 container whipped topping (Cool Whip)
OR
• 2 cups heavy whipping cream + 3 tablespoons powdered sugar (homemade)
🔹 Fruit Layer
• 1 can cherry pie filling
(You can also use strawberry or blueberry)
🔹 Optional Decoration
• Sliced almonds
• Powdered sugar
• Extra cherries
🍽️ EQUIPMENT YOU WILL NEED
• Large mixing bowl
• Whisk
• Spatula
• Knife
• Glass dish or cake stand
• Plastic wrap
👩🍳 VERY DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
🔹 STEP 1: Prepare the angel food cake
• Make sure the cake is completely cool.
• Cut the cake into small cubes (about 1–2 inches).
👉 Do NOT crush the cake.
👉 Light cubes = airy texture.
Set aside.
🔹 STEP 2: Prepare the vanilla pudding
In a large bowl:
• Add 1 package instant vanilla pudding
• Add 1 ½ cups cold milk
Whisk for 2 full minutes until:
• Thick
• Smooth
• No lumps
Let it sit for 5 minutes to fully set.
🔹 STEP 3: Prepare whipped cream
Option A: Store-bought
• Use whipped topping straight from the container.
Option B: Homemade (BEST flavor)
• Pour 2 cups cold heavy cream into a bowl.
• Add 3 tablespoons powdered sugar.
• Beat until soft peaks form.
⚠️ Do NOT overwhip or it turns buttery.
🔹 STEP 4: Combine pudding & whipped cream
• Add half of the whipped cream to the pudding.
• Fold gently using a spatula.
👉 Folding = slow movements, NOT mixing hard.
👉 This keeps the cream light and fluffy.
🧱 ASSEMBLING THE CAKE (VERY IMPORTANT PART)
🔹 STEP 5: First cake layer
• Place half of the angel food cake cubes on your dish.
• Spread evenly.
🔹 STEP 6: Pudding layer
• Spoon half of the pudding mixture over the cake.
• Spread gently to cover everything.
🔹 STEP 7: Fruit layer
• Add half of the cherry pie filling.
• Spread evenly.
🔹 STEP 8: Second cake layer
• Add the remaining cake cubes.
• Press VERY gently.
🔹 STEP 9: Repeat layers
• Add remaining pudding mixture.
• Add remaining cherries.
🔹 STEP 10: Final whipped topping
• Spread the remaining whipped cream on top.
• Smooth the surface nicely.
❄️ CHILLING (DO NOT SKIP)
• Cover with plastic wrap.
• Refrigerate for at least 4 hours
👉 BEST if chilled overnight (8–12 hours).
