Hamburger Steak with Creamy Onion Gravy

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Patties

Heat the cooking oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat.
In a medium bowl, gently combine the ground chuck, chopped onion, egg, hot sauce (if using), seasoned salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until just combined—avoid overworking the meat.
Shape the mixture into 4 to 6 equal-sized patties. Lightly coat each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.
Cook the patties in the skillet until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the patties and set them aside on a plate.
Step 2: Make the Onion Gravy

Step 3: Combine and Simmer
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, turning to coat them in the gravy. Add the sliced mushrooms (if using) and stir to combine.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let everything simmer for about 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the patties to cook through.
Step 4: Serve

Serve the hamburger steaks hot, topped with the creamy onion gravy. Pair with mashed potatoes, green beans, or a fresh garden salad for a complete meal.
Tips:
For extra flavor, use beef stock instead of broth.
If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix an additional tablespoon of flour with a little water and stir it into the gravy.
Let the patties rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep them juicy.
Enjoy this comforting, flavorful dish that’s perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions!
